House and Grounds

La Maison de la Fontaine offers outstanding, spacious accomodation in the enchanting south western corner of France. Inside the house itself you will find generously proportioned rooms, and all the facilities necessary to ensure the highest standard of self-catering accommodation. Outside, the formal flower garden includes the fish pond and two large terraces. Beyond this, a 12m x 6m pool in its own Mediterranean walled garden is at your disposal, as well as the well-populated orchard (chickens, pig and trees) and an impressive kitchen garden featuring organically grown vegetables.

THE HOUSE:

Bedrooms: Six large, elegantly and thoughtfully furnished double bedrooms make up the sleeping quarters of La Maison de la Fontaine. There are four spacious rooms on the first floor, decorated with treasures collected during years spent travelling the world; each room seeks its inspiration from a different region of the earth. Two palatial attic rooms comprise the third floor, both of which are equipped to sleep slightly larger numbers, making them ideal pads for teenagers and children, or for those with a love of space! Each bedroom boasts high quality bed linen and very comfortable beds, as well as its own well-proportioned and modern ensuite bathroom, equipped with fine cotton towels. For those with smaller children or babies, we are able to provide cots and smaller beds (lits pliants) which may be placed in any of the rooms, as well as accompanying linen.

Kitchen: The centre of any home, the kitchen at La Maison de la Fontaine is a strong contender for the true heart of the house. Traditionally built in finest oak and granite, it provides the highest standard of self-catering. It is fully equipped with a large Godin range (four gas hobs, a hot plate and a griddle, a large gas oven, an electric oven and a warming oven) and all the essential modern appliances: dishwasher, microwave, spacioius fridge and freezer. The kitchen comes with basic cupboard stocks and cleaning products for any inadvertent spillages.

Dining: For those who favour the kitchen supper, draw up a chair around the large and well-loved kitchen table, hand-crafted for the family by one of the best local artisans. More formal occasions may be celebrated in the Music Room, or outside on either of the two terraces (both accessible from the kitchen).

THE GROUNDS:

Pool: The house boasts a luxurious 12m x 6m heated salt-chlorinated swimming pool which is open from April to October. The pool is set in a stunning walled Mediterranean garden, allowing you to relax in total privacy on sunloungers and under parasols. For those with children, or who like to mess around in water, we also have a stock of woggles available for your use. Swimming towels are kept in the house.

Orchard: The orchard set opposite the pool and behind the flower garden contains many different types of fruit and nut trees, and is home to our free range hens and much-loved American miniature pot-bellied pig, or Piggle for short. Enjoy collecting the eggs for breakfast, and lessen your carbon footprint by using our compost facility - otherwise known as Piggle and friends.

Gardens: There are three main gardens at La Maison de la Fontaine. The flower garden is the largest and most formal, and is the result of many years of loving care. It is home to the fish pond and water feature, as well as a raised terrace where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Pots immediately outside the kitchen contain useful herbs.

The well-stocked kitchen garden with its raised beds is often a favourite of guests - choose your vegetables from a selection of tomatoes, courgettes, beans, aubergines, asparagus, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, onions, garlic and potatoes. Please be aware that we prefer that you ask before removing any vegetables, but we always encourage our guests to use them!

The Mediterranean pool garden is a haven of relaxation where you can spend hours in and around the pool.

N.B. The pool and gardens require a daily level of care, so please be aware that the pool will be checked at least once a day, and that the gardens will be maintained by the owners of the property so do not be alarmed if you see someone gardening!
